Taking a look back at CWC…
We are blown away by the incredible turnout we had at Carolina Way Camp. 225 incoming freshmen joined us this year, making it our largest and most epic CWC yet. We started off CWC with a welcome lunch for students and their families with remarks from NCSC Executive Director Madison Perry, UNC History Professor Dr. Molly Worthen, and Dean of Civic Life and Engagement, Jed Atkins. After these remarks were made, students said goodbye to their parents and headed to the Quad for a campus-wide scavenger hunt called Campus Clash. We saw students laughing, getting to know one another, getting familiar with campus, and having fun. After we finished the scavenger hunt, we loaded into cars and headed to a local farm in Durham for worship, fellowship, and a square dance. The first day of CWC was filled with hard goodbyes, yet excitement and joy for what was to come.
The second day of CWC, we traveled to a YMCA camp called Camp Hanes for a day filled with lake activities and sports, where we saw the lively and adventurous spirit of this freshmen class. We ended the second night with a talk from Madison, worship time, and a huge dance party.
For the last day of CWC, we enjoyed Brandwein’s bagels together at the outdoor amphitheater outside Genome Science Building on campus. After we enjoyed breakfast together, we heard a devotional by a local pastor and then headed to different breakout groups led by campus ministers and our staff.
The main thing that stood out to our staff about this group of freshmen is how hungry they are for the Lord and for community. This freshmen class is outgoing, eager, connected, confident, and such a special group of young men and women. It was a joy for our staff to witness the life that they experienced in these three days of camp.
